Pictures of my character Kaarina at the Helsinki Vampire Chronicle, 1995-2004

I moved these to a separate page, because there were actually quite a few of them. Most of these pictures were taken by Suvi Lehtoranta (some may be by other narrators in the chronicle). These and other pictures from the dozens of games in the Chronicle can be found at Orava's gallery. You can find some (quite dated) background for Kaarina in Finnish here.

At Club Babylon, 1996. The orange armband is not part of the costume, it's a sign of being a narrator (for a while, and a very inexperienced one). The ribbons indicate Babyface (meaning the character looks and feels human; red) and Heightened Senses (lavender).

Frustrated neonates in a bitching session, or trying to come to some kind of understanding with Toreador (ex-gypsy) Kiril Chowkidar, at a reception given by an old, respectable Ventrue near Helsinki. Autumn 1998?

At Prince deLaurentis's first official reception, 1999, preparing for my poetry recital. This is a modification of the dress in the b&w "Vanerikreivitär" picture, with new sleeves of the same red lamé, but I had no idea it was so badly wrinkled.

At a reception at Gustaf's mansion, autumn 2001, not feeling well (character had messed up her personal life most thoroughly, I was on a totally unsuitable medication). Clicking the small picture lets you see an illustration of some of the in-character mess: Kaarina's two new consolation prizes, Mari (a talented young singer and addict) and Miklos (a young Greek who ended up being nothing but trouble). It was fun while it lasted!

An ordinary evening at the Elysium, later in autumn 2001. Unloading those existential and relationship (well, mostly relationship, but those were quite interchangeable to Kaarina) troubles once again to Ray Mooney, a sympathetic Brujah (ex-Toreador ghoul). Note the same jacket (and lipstick!) as in the first picture. By now I'd switched the chain-like necklace for double pearls with the garnet (in-game ruby) pendant that supposedly was from Kaarina & Gustaf's first Paris trip together.

...And then, in 2002, trying to work through some of that trouble caused by Miklos (by then a Malkavian). Prince de Laurentis considers whether he can allow Miklos to visit Helsinki regularly; Nosferatu Arnold Horst at the back is not looking too well, for unrelated reasons.

End-of-season party at Gustaf's mansion, December 2002. The dress is my old gold undergown/ballgown (seen here in an earlier ballgown incarnation, at Ropecon 2000) with a pearled fabric stitched on top of the bodice (too late, as usual!) and spur-of-the-moment sleeves. The orchids are another signature element.

At a Ventrue reception, autumn 2004. I swear I had no idea I was so seriously bursting out of my bodice! Otherwise, this dress came together better than I expected: bodice is from my first Vampire ballgown that had the gold skirt seen in another combination above, sleeves were made to match a bit later (at which time I also added a brocade front that I later switched to the dress in the last picture). Underskirt is the skirt from the red lamé, overskirt is cream organza made for a dance performance at Ropecon earlier that year. The garnet pendant's been moved to another, more ostentatious necklace. There are a couple of other nice pictures from this game, but we'll see...

At the last game of the Chronicle, November 2004. Prince of Helsinki (by this time, well-established in power) Gustaf af Hellström, with his faithful little grandchilde and lover Kaarina standing in attendance. The dress was the latest incarnation of my fantasy Renaissance gown, worn with a black chemise and underskirt (now the gown's in pieces, waiting to be made into something more historically correct).
