Welcome to my pyre

This site is old (and old-fashioned) and serves mostly as a historical record, but perhaps you will find something illuminating here. Most of my current life is elsewhere by now.

These were some roads in, or at least towards:

Chronicles of a Depression, my diary until Oct 18, 2007 - my current diary is elsewhere
Scribblings: Updated Oct 17, 2007
Faces, Dresses & Things: LARP Portraits And Everything Else About My Costuming Stuff (vinkkejä myös suomeksi)

"...But I, being poor, have only my dreams;
I have spread my dreams under your feet;
Tread softly because you tread on my dreams."

(W.B.Yeats: He wishes for the Cloths of Heaven)

Some Passions (Or, A Geek, And Proud Of It!)

  • Live-action roleplaying. 11 years, 200+ games by now.
  • Books. I am a compulsive reader. Some favourite authors: A.S.Byatt, Margaret Atwood, Carrie Fisher, Guy Gavriel Kay, Gene Wolfe, T.S.Eliot, Stephen Fry, Connie Willis, Mary Gentle, Lois McMaster Bujold, Ursula LeGuin, Eino Leino, Eeva-Liisa Manner, Leena Krohn, and of course, now and always, J.R.R.Tolkien.
  • Movies, sci-fi series, comics, fan fiction and other geekish things (geek page under revision). Firefly/Serenity (and any Joss Whedon). LOTR. The X-men. Strangers in Paradise. Harry Potter (in some ways). The new Galactica. And others... The Internet Movie Database is a daily fix.
  • Words. Poetry. Words are important, words are mountains, words are a matter of life and death, each and every one. Some texts of mine can be found in Scribblings.
  • Dance. All performing forms, classical ballet and flamenco being the most damiliar to me.
  • Medieval and Renaissance history, culture and historical costuming. The Current Middle Ages are found in Aarnimetsä, the Finnish branch of the SCA.
  • A short description of my SCA persona.
  • My favourite costume stop currently is The Realm of Venus, showcasing jaw-dropping renaissance costumes and offering loads of information on Renaissance Italian costuming. More general costuming links to come presently.
  • Understanding people. Sometimes too well.
  • Getting past clinical depression and finding a place in this world.

These Things Matter (To Begin With)

  • (list under revision)
  • The Hunger Site Network: yes, a click is very little, but it's better than nothing
  • Amnesty International
  • Questions of universal ethics, Christian-leaning theism based on such (instead of the other way round) and a recognition of the importance and irreplaceability of science: how to resolve these in my own life? This old news may act as a placeholder for a few days.
